Why Release Monarch Butterflies?
a division of Added Touch Celebration, Inc.
Monarchs are nearly 4 times the size of a Painted Lady. To have the same effect of a Monarch release, you would need to release at least 4 times as many Painted Ladies!
Monarch butterflies fly gracefully, unlike Painted Ladies that flutter fast. It is very difficult to get a good photograph of a Painted Lady during a release.
Monarch butterflies are capable of flight in cooler temperatures allowing them to be released earlier in the spring and later in the fall.
Monarch butterflies ship extremely well. Monarchs natually go into a sleeplike state when they are chilled allowing them to be safely shipped.
The Monarch Butterfly has an average wingspan of between 3 3/8 - 4 1/4", while the Painted Lady has an average wingspan of only 2-2 1/2".
The most beautiful butterfly that the USDA permits for release is without a doubt the Monarch Butterfly.
